Ronnie Reynard Javier present Abu Sayyaf suspect Annik Abbas ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mybreak\ Nov. 25, 06) - Army intelligence service agents captured an Abu Sayyaf member, which the military tagged to be involved in the kidnapping of American nationals 5 years ago, in a village of Lamitan, Basilan, according to official. Captured suspect who was presented to the media was identified as Annik Abbas alias Abu Anek, tagged to be among those who allegedly witness the execution of one American captives. Abbas was captured while on board his getaway motorcycle at Barangay Colonia, Lamitan near the boundary of Tuburan town Basilan Friday night. Javier said Abbas who was captured in 2002, a year after he participated the Dos Palmas kidnapping, bolted cell during a jail break on April 2004 and went on hiding. Thanks Giving Day in Zamboanga

ZAMBONGA CITY (Maybreak / Nov. 23, 06) - Turkey, any one? Not now, but soon this Asia's Latin City may adopt American tradition in celebrating Thanks Giving Day. This as the city and the government environment agency put a premium in protecting the city's watershed with an agreement. US Ambassador Kristie Kenney signed an agreement that would help protect the city's 56,239 hectares of watersheds. “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate (Thanks Giving) than in joining our hands together as one family not only protect the water system," according to Kenney who lauded the effort in protecting the mother nature. Mayor Celso Lobregat said the support to the city's effort is indeed a fitting way of giving thanks to the nature and the program was timely as the Americans are celebrating the most special holiday. Kenney also joined the US forces who are based here with the turkey, a traditional treat for the Thanks Giving Day.

INDON CONSUL VISITS DULMATIN’S WIFE…

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mybreak/ Nov. 15, 2006) – Indonesian Consul-General Ikon Moch Entjeng met Wednesday with the wife of Asia’s most wanted Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) to work for her deportation along with her six children. Istiada B.T Oemar Sovie alias Amenah Tohe told Ikon Moch she wants to go back to Indonesia along with her six children. Istiada was arrested last Oct. 3 along with her two sons in Patikul, Sulu. She said her four other children are still somewhere in Sulu. Ikon Moch thanked the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) for securing Istiada while awaiting deportation. -#-

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mybreak/Nov. 13, 06) – Australian Ambassador Tony Hely urged the continued international commitment to support the military hunting down the terrorists in the island of southern Philippines . His call was despite of the reported decline in number of the al-Qaeda-linked Jemaah islamiyah (JI) and the Abu Sayyaf. Hely said the terrorist is a resilient group and would regenerate. “There is a drop of the number of terrorists, declining somewhat but they are resilient and do regenerate. We need to keep the international commitment and work together for the Philippines ,” Hely said. #

ZAMBOANGA CITY(Mybreak/Nov. 13, 06) - Tight military security were doubled as six ambassadors from countries known as powerful nations arrived Monday in what is described as unique event demonstrating international support for peace and development. U.S ambassador Kristie Kenney led the pack with ambassadors Peter Sutherland ( Canada ), Peter Bekingham ( United Kingdom ), Tony Hely ( Australia ), David Pine ( New Zealand ), and Ryuichiro Yamazaki ( Japan ) later flew to Isabela City of Basilan. Troops neutralize Abu Sayyaf commander involve in Basilan's mass abduction

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mybreak / Nov. 7, 06) - An Abu Sayyaf commander tagged to be involved in the mass abduction of teachers and students in Basilan 6 years ago was killed during a raid by security forces in an island town of Zamboanga Sibugay, the military said Tuesday. Brig. Gen. Reymundo Ferrer, 1st Army Division chief based in Western Mindanao said encounter occurred when the military forces served the warrant for the arrest of the terrorist suspect in a village of Oluntanga town in Mabuhay district about 9a.m Monday. The suspect, Abu Sayyaf commander Tajajul Ampul alias Abu Imam who is carrying P150,000.00 reward, fired at the approaching arresting government forces. Ferrer said brief firefight sparked which left the suspect killed. Ferrer said Ampul was tagged to be involved in the mass abduction of teachers and students, including martyred Catholic priest Fr. Rhoel Gallardo of Claret in Sumisip on March 2000, and other high profile kidnapping and terror attack in Basilan. -#

Anti-terror troops seize 375 kilos of explosive chemical in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY - - Alerted military anti-terror unit and intelligence agents foiled anew bombing plot after they intercepted and seized huge haul of chemical explosive in a checkpoint in this southern port city. The capture of the chemical explosive continues to bolster the military suspicions of terror plot to conduct bombings. The 375 kilos of ammonium nitrate, a prime ingredient in bomb making, was intercepted by the anti-terror unit of Task Force Zamboanga (TFZ) and elements of the Military Intelligence Company (MICO) in a checkpoint set up in Barangay Rio Hondo about 5:45a.m Tuesday. The explosive material contained in fifteen sacks of 25 kilos each, load in a Tamaraw jeep was detected after the cargo handler was found to be carrying a .45 caliber pistol. -# - (Mybreak)

Pirates abduct 19 fishing boat crews in Zamboanga peninsula

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mybreak / Nov. 6, 06) - Fully armed pirates captured and hostage 19 fishing boat crews off the seas of Zamboanga del Sur, some 300 kilometers east of this port city, in southern Philippines. The military said the victims were sailing on their vessel for fishing venture towards south when they were intercepted by the sea marauders on board a twin-engine speedboat late Saturday. The suspects took the fishermen hostage after the fishing boat owner allegedly failed to pay month “protection” fee to the pirates group. The victims were only released Sunday after their fishing boat operator paid P160,000.00 as “protection fee.” #

Muslim separatist denies recruiting minors…

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mybreak / Nov. 5, 06) – The separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) strongly objected and denied allegation it is recruiting minors into its forces ranks in Zamboanga peninsula. The MILF made the reaction following charges of a former MILF commander who claimed the separatist is luring minors with juicy promises once they are listed and trained under its forces. The claim was made revealed by Liling Siddik over the local ABS-CBN TV news aired Friday. But the MILF through its Zamboanga peninsula official vehemently objected the allegation citing that those minors who are in their ranks have voluntarily joined the MILF to fight for cause against reported abuses from the military. It added that other minors were siblings of the MILF who opted to be in the rank and were not forcibly recruited. ZAMBOANGA CITY - - A Jemaah Islamiyah (JI)-trained Abu Sayyaf hitman was captured after he wounded two soldiers in liquidation attempt in Jolo island, Saturday night, the military reported. Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) disclosed the soldiers came from humanitarian mission when they were attacked by the assassin. The two soldiers were wounded but managed to fire back and brief firefight ensued. Alerted soldiers and police quickly cordoned the encounter site and caught the assassin who is believed to be with another companion that managed to escape. The triggerman was tagged by the military and police as member of the Abu Sayyaf urban terror group (UTG), a terror unit trained by the JI in demolition and assassination. The suspect’s identity was withheld as he was placed under tactical interrogation to determine their mission. Communist insurgents raid army detachment in Central Mindanao

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mybreak/Nov. 3, 06) – Communist insurgents raided an army detachment Thursday in a village of Central Mindanao province in southern Philippines . The military reported at least 30 Maoist New People’s Army (NPA) led by still unidentified commander also carted away 22 high-powered firearms when they swooped down the army detachment in Barangay Nituan, Tulunan town in North Cotabato about 8a.m. The military said the raiding rebels were not detected as they were disguising as police forces. The rebels rounded up a dozen of civilians as they led their way to the army detachment and used the victims as human shields against the government militia manning the army camp. The NPA rebels quickly disarmed the troops and fled with the firearms they looted from the detachment. No one was harmed from the civilians and the troops who were freed immediately. # (Mybreak)

136 Filipino deportees arrive from Malaysia

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mybreak/ Nov. 3, 06) - - More than a hundred of Filipino illegal migrants who were among those thousands aliens rounded in Malaysia have arrived in this southern port city, social worker said Friday. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported 136 deportees, all adults, arrived aboard the M/V Danica Joy last Wednesday from Kuta Kinabalu , Malaysia . The DSWD disclosed that the deportees who arrived entered Malaysia without valid documents. The Malaysian government is expected to deport about 300,000 Filipino illegals in the coming weeks, and thousands more from other nationalities that entered their country illegally. #

Country folks begin to build 'dream peace communities'
