Communist insurgents raid army detachment in Central Mindanao

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mybreak/Nov. 3, 06) – Communist insurgents raided an army detachment Thursday in a village of Central Mindanao province in southern Philippines.

The military reported at least 30 Maoist New People’s Army (NPA) led by still unidentified commander also carted away 22 high-powered firearms when they swooped down the army detachment in Barangay Nituan, Tulunan town in North Cotabato about 8a.m.

The military said the raiding rebels were not detected as they were disguising as police forces.

The rebels rounded up a dozen of civilians as they led their way to the army detachment and used the victims as human shields against the government militia manning the army camp.

The NPA rebels quickly disarmed the troops and fled with the firearms they looted from the detachment. No one was harmed from the civilians and the troops who were freed immediately. # (Mybreak)
