Troops neutralize Abu Sayyaf commander involve in Basilan's mass abduction

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mybreak / Nov. 7, 06) - An Abu Sayyaf commander tagged to be involved in the mass abduction of teachers and students in Basilan 6 years ago was killed during a raid by security forces in an island town of Zamboanga Sibugay, the military said Tuesday.

Brig. Gen. Reymundo Ferrer, 1st Army Division chief based in Western Mindanao said encounter occurred when the military forces served the warrant for the arrest of the terrorist suspect in a village of Oluntanga town in Mabuhay district about 9a.m Monday.

The suspect, Abu Sayyaf commander Tajajul Ampul alias Abu Imam who is carrying P150,000.00 reward, fired at the approaching arresting government forces.


Ferrer said brief firefight sparked which left the suspect killed.


Ferrer said Ampul was tagged to be involved in the mass abduction of teachers and students, including martyred Catholic priest Fr. Rhoel Gallardo of Claret in Sumisip on March 2000, and other high profile kidnapping and terror attack in Basilan. -#- (Mybreak)
