SIX AMBASSADORS OF POWERFUL NATIONS VISIT ZAMBO AND BASILAN…

ZAMBOANGA CITY(Mybreak/Nov. 13, 06) - Tight military security were doubled as six ambassadors from countries known as powerful nations arrived Monday in what is described as unique event demonstrating international support for peace and development.

U.S ambassador Kristie Kenney led the pack with ambassadors Peter Sutherland (Canada), Peter Bekingham (United Kingdom), Tony Hely (Australia), David Pine (New Zealand), and Ryuichiro Yamazaki (Japan) later flew to Isabela City of Basilan.

Kenney said the six countries expressed all its commitment and support for the myriad development projects in Mindanao, focusing on education, improved health care, agricultural sustainability, poverty alleviation, peace building and counter-terrorism.

Sutherland said their presence is to demonstrate their collective interest and commitment to Mindanao citing southern Philippines as extremely important to them.

Yamazaki for his part during their visit in Basilan told the local leaders that the progress in the island province known as former bastion of the Abu Sayyaf was a result of the resolve of the people.

“You owe it to yourselves that’s why we are here because you are a success story,” Yamazaki said. -#-
