Pirates abduct 19 fishing boat crews in Zamboanga peninsula

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mybreak / Nov. 6, 06) - Fully armed pirates captured and hostage 19 fishing boat crews off the seas of Zamboanga del Sur, some 300 kilometers east of this port city, in southern Philippines.

The military said the victims were sailing on their vessel for fishing venture towards south when they were intercepted by the sea marauders on board a twin-engine speedboat late Saturday.

The suspects took the fishermen hostage after the fishing boat owner allegedly failed to pay month “protection” fee to the pirates group.

The victims were only released Sunday after their fishing boat operator paid P160,000.00 as “protection fee.” #
